Harborne Golf Club

Allcock Cup and AM AM Comps

HGC hosted the Allcock Cup last Saturday and 124 players braved the warm conditions out on the course.  I have tried to find out some history behind this trophy but unfortunately have come with up nothing.  I would love to hear from you if you know otherwise.  The history of the Club is so important, it'll be a real shame if we let it go.

Anyway, the winners on the day with only a point between them was William Flanagan with 65, Oliver Gill with 66 and Brian Craddock with 67.  Many congratulations to you all.

Another first for the Club (as far as I know) was that members returned to the clubhouse to the sounds of a rather loud steel drum band playing from the wedding reception next door, an experience that will be remembered for a long time to come, I'm sure.

The AM-AM was played Sunday for the fourth year and there were 37 teams including invited guests from local clubs.  Again, it was another lovely day and again, the final scores were all very close.

The winning team with a top score of 84 was Haborne's own Rory McLaren with three North Worcs players, A Sandall, Terry James and R Hough.

Second place went to Maurice Candlin, Mark Atkins, Daniel Terry and Robert Graham Bishop with a score of 83.

A special congratulations goes to the team in third place with a score of 82 as three players were new members to the Club as of last month, that being Jamie Marsh, Rhys Marsh and Arron Marsh and playing alongside them was Stephen Keay.

Congratulations to all the winners over the weekend.  Next weekend is set to be a good one too with the Club Championship set over the two days.  The weather forecast is set to be a little damp, particularly on Saturday so don't forget your brollys but there's promise of drier weather Sunday, something which I'm pleased about as I don't like soggy hot dogs!  Hope to see you all at the BBQ from 1pm onwards.
