Harborne Golf Club

Last week at HGC

As another busy week at HGC comes to an end, we become another week closer to Christmas and its all action stations still for the Club.  Pat and her team have catered for an event every day this week and Stuart now finds himself or, rather the simulator, very popular with members.   Not only is the Club the proud new owner of a shiny indoor golf simulator this week (that’s for those that may not have heard) but it also now has a shiny new boiler which couldn’t be fitted fast enough for us ladies on Tuesday afternoon.  We were just as cold inside the Clubhouse as we had been playing out!

However, the place was cosy warm for Tuesday night for the Ladies Presentation Evening and, of course, The Tuesday Club.   With such a high percentage of ladies in the Clubhouse I was hoping we may have had a female name drawn but it was not to be and for the sixth week running our winner this Tuesday, Hugh Bradby, was found not to be in the room.    Next week, the jackpot stands at £175.

Thursday’s Club Night was much lower in numbers this week but then a lot of members had already dined once or twice so it was sort of to be expected and, of course, the draw was won last week, meaning this week’s jackpot had reduced to £125 once more.  The winner this week, Keith Froggatt, is a regular on Thursday and this week was no exception, except he had to leave shortly before the draw.  Ooops, sorry Keith.

The raffle of £177 was the lowest we’ve had since the beginning of October but we did have a winner, Kelvin Alldritt.  Congratulations Kelvin.

Stuart ran a ‘nearest the pin’ competition on the Sunningdale course that proved great fun and quite addictive for some people.  It's not as easy as it looks but Mark Cooper didn't seem to have any problem with his tee shot leaving him 4’ 2” away from the pin making him the victor of £30.

At the opposite end of the Clubhouse the snooker tournament continued but unfortunately, I’m only aware of two winners at the moment and they were Steve Ellis and Steve Cox.

Next Thursday is the last Club Night of 2014 (aah I hear you all say!) and to help mark the occasion there will be extra raffle prizes of wine, a turkey and a fruit and veg hamper to win.  A carvery is set for dinner next week and is already fully booked but please still come along and join in with the festive cheer.

Looking forward to next Saturday the 20th, Santa arrives at HGC at 9.30 for breakfast alongside a bit of present giving and hohohoing.    The cost is £8.50 for adults and £3.50 for children.  Only the children get the presents though!  The next day, Sunday the 21st sees the Christmas 3 Club Challenge with shot gun start and with fifty five members signed up already there’s a few times left if you fancy joining in.   The fun is then continued afterwards, in the bar with the annual Christmas Cocktail Party complete with canapes for all members followed by a carvery which again is now fully booked.

That’s all from me this week.  Wrap up warm if you’re out on the course and if anyone has the photographic urge, some lovely wintry photos would be most welcome.
