Your Weekly HGC Round Up!

Hi everyone

With so many members away on holiday, including Pro Stuart who’s dancing his nights away in Ibiza, HGC certainly feels different but that hasn’t stopped this week being a great week for the Club and also for me personally for, at long last, I finally broke my handicap, hurray!  I’d set myself the target of the end of the season and was starting to think it was a tough ask but this game never fails to surprise you.

The second event that has kept me smiling this week was that of Andy Eaton on Club Night, or perhaps we should just say it was Andy Eaton’s night!  With the help of a few lovely ladies and Mr Captain, Andy sat clutching the first aid box (just in case) and undertook the ‘Brave the Shave for Macmillan’ challenge.  Amidst lots of cameras, Andy took it all in his stride as slowly his locks came off with Mr Captain completing the task and very gently too, I might say.  For being so brave Andy was rewarded with a lollipop and monies being thrust at him left, right and centre and the last I heard the total stood around the £500 mark and is probably still growing.  Many congratulations to you Andy.

Should you still want to contribute to this worthy charity I’m sure Andy would be happy to help but please don’t forget about the Macmillan Coffee Morning set for Friday 25 September from 9am onwards where there will be cakes galore for you to choose and enjoy.

Andy’s night of glory didn’t end there.  Following the shave, the Club Draw of £125 was called and much to everyone’s amazement Andy’s name was drawn creating quite a stir but none of us were prepared for his syndicate, orchestrated by Dean Price, to win the £195 raffle as well which set everyone off laughing.  It was a great atmosphere and to top the night off West Mids League Team Captain, Scott Ryman, was celebrating his 44th birthday and was presented with a cake decorated with candles, lollipops and sweets from Kaz and the girls from the kitchen.  The only shame was he ended up wearing most of it!  All in all, it must have been one of the funniest Club Night’s ever and one we’ll remember for a long time to come.

The menu for next week is as follows:

STARTERS

Soup of the Day

Melon

Pate

MAINS

Roast Beef with all the trimmings

Lamb Rogan Josh, Rice & Mini Nan

Cod in Parsley Sauce with New Potatoes & Veg

8oz Sirloin Steak with all the trimmings (£2 supplement & must be pre-ordered by 4pm Wed)

DESSERTS

A wide selection to choose from

£10 for two courses, £12.50 for three and please book over the bar by Wednesday latest

Golf matches last week were a little thin on the ground for obvious reasons.  The County Ladies had their Semi-Final match in Rugby and sadly didn’t get through but they still finish the season in Division Two’s top spot which is a fantastic achievement.

The B Team played away to Shirley and suffered a loss but revenge is planned for this week for the return fixture at home.  Good luck gents!

Thursday the Ladies held a friendly match at home to Bromsgrove resulting in a 3½ ½ win and finally Mark Morgan won the Thursday Nine Hole Thursday Stableford with 22 points earning him £20.

Congratulations to all our winners this week plus a little tap on the back for myself as I won the ladies fun competition on Tuesday (all by myself!).

This week looks a little busier with the Ladies 2nd Team playing today at home to Edgbaston.  Tomorrow the Grandmothers Trophy will be played for and Wednesday, as I’ve mentioned, the B Team face Shirley.  Thursday, the Seniors will be away to Bromsgrove whilst at home there is a charity golf day being held so beware the tees will be closed from 10am to 12.30pm.  Finally, Saturday there is a Three Man Stableford so you’ve got the course to yourselves guys, enjoy!

It’s the Bank Holiday next week, so have fun with whatever you’re planning and fingers crossed for lovely weather.   I’m away for the next couple of weeks so your next round up will be the second week in September but please, if you have any stories in the meantime, keep me posted.

Best wishes

Jennie x

PS – A quick hello to Eddy Evitts, who came and introduced himself and his wife to me yesterday at Bromsgrove Golf Centre, it was lovely to meet you both.
